Spring Update

Greetings,

It is with great enthusiasm that I share with you our Spring 2023 Update. The last few months have been amazing at Hemlock Public School District, whether it be the State Championship Pompon team, the sold-out theater performances of the Newsies, our robotics team, Gray Matter 5712 amazing season and heading to States next weekend at SVSU, or the movie worthy performance of our Girls Varsity Basketball Team as they became State Champions as well. Additionally, we have had some amazing individual student performances as well, whether it be Luke Zastrow being crowned a State Champion powerlifter two years in a row or Avery Bronz qualifying for States in welding. We had a great time celebrating March is Reading Month as well.

At Hemlock Public School District, our desire is to provide an unparalleled world-class experience for our students that can only be had through innovation, collaboration, and a strong sense of community. As you know, our students are competing at a high level, whether it be in academics, athletics, or the arts. We are a triple "A" school district, expanding opportunities to our students with Academics, Arts, Athletics, and more.

We continue to focus on positively impacting every classroom and every student with improvements and more. We continue to see our students making progress inside our classrooms and out. As a school, we cultivate human capital and foster growth so that our students will become productive citizens, ready for an ever-changing landscape. This spring, people on the outside of our buildings will start to see the transformation that we have been seeing on the inside over the last few years. Work has already begun at Wallace Field, with work pending at Hemlock Elementary and K.C. Ling Elementary.

As a school district, our mission and vision are to innovate, collaborate, and educate a community of learners. We continue to lead the way and have highlighted many of our collective partners since the start of 2023 and will continue to do so. Our school and our community are better because of partners, and it's important to show gratitude to those that have helped us along the way. We continue to honor legacy partnerships as we work to strengthen these relationships. We also forge ahead and build new ones. We cultivate partnerships that benefit our students and community. Organizations like Pumford Construction, which partnered with us to build a world-class STEM Center and are currently working with us on an expansion. We have partnered with the Patrick Wolgast Family and Moltus Building Group to fundraise and build a field house.

These projects are notable to everyone, and their impact is and will be undeniable. With the STEM Center expansion and the field house build, we are still raising capital and in-kind donation of material and labor. For more information about giving in any fashion, please contact Director of Business Operations and HR Anna Wamack via email at wamack@hemlockps.com or call (989)642-5282.

As a school district and community, we are entering a new era that will involve some growing pains. Whether it be the temporary inconvenience of our improvements, updates to protocols, or maybe you don't like the new trim color at K.C. Ling (everyone will love it when it is done, except maybe you). We ask that you reach out to one of us, our building principals, our business official, or myself, rather than use social media. Reach out, names and numbers below, share your concern and provide a reasonable amount of time (typically at least 72 hours, but it may take longer) for them to review and get back to you. Using social media as a platform when you have not called or emailed, or asked for an appointment may make you feel better but does little, if anything, to work towards providing you with the level of service we desire. Our goal is to provide an unparalleled education experience to our students, staff, and families while serving our community.

As a school district, we are stronger than ever. Families from near and afar recognize the Huskie Pack is leading the way in providing a world-class educational experience. We will continue to focus on improving as we are positioned as a destination district. More and more young families recognize Hemlock Public School District as the destination for a great education in a family-friendly community. Due to the continued high demand for our early childhood programming, we will be moving the administration office from the elementary building at 200 Wilson Street to the Southwest corner of our high school with a new address of 733 N. Hemlock Rd., Suite 100. We will work to develop additional spaces to serve families in our early childhood program over the next few months.

Thank you for your passion for our students and Hemlock Public School District. Our Huskie Pack is strong because students, alumni, families, and the community continue to share our story and advocate for our mission. I am grateful to you, and I hope to thank you in person sometime soon. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 989.642.5282.

Until we chat again, be safe, and be well; all the best,

Dr. Donald Killingbeck Jr., Ed.D., Supt.

Go Huskies!
