The Hemlock Public School District Board of Education recently adopted an updated Policy Manual. This process had board members meet multiple times to review and hours of hard work. The Board of Education Policy Committee comprised of President Dr. Ellison, Treasurer Rivette, and Trustee Messing reviewed options for updating the district's policy manual this past fall. The committee requested a presentation from NEOLA Policy Services and Lusk Albertson Policy Services. The committee recommended Lusk Albertson Policy Services to the Board of Education, which was approved at the December 10, 2018, regular board meeting.
Board Trustee Messing stated, “I am extremely proud of the work that our board members did on the policy review committee. The previous policy was lengthy and quite complicated, with the help of Lusk Albertson and Superintendent Killingbeck we were able to streamline our policies, making them more user-friendly and manageable. The simplification of our policy manual will make it crystal clear to the community, faculty, and staff.”
After the Board of Education approved Lusk Albertson, the policy committee met with staff from the policy service and reviewed both old and new policy, and made adjustments as needed. After the revision process was completed, the committee recommended the updated policy manual to the Board of Education for review. The Board of Education reviewed the policy manual at the regular March and April board meeting and approved the manual at the regular May meeting.
Superintendent Don Killingbeck said, “Policy review and development is one of the major functions of the Board of Education. I thank the members of the Board of Education for their commitment and hard work to ensure that Hemlock Public School District policies are regularly reviewed and updated."
