Hemlock, MI - The Hemlock Public School District Board of Education finalized negotiations and approved a ratified contract with Hemlock Federation of Teachers on November 18, 2019. The process started in late August with representatives from both parties meeting together to find common ground.
The new contract is performance-based and extends for five years, the agreement helps create stability and is a testament of the collaboration between the district and teacher’s union.
Vice President and Negotiation Chair Matt Wesener gave praise to the teachers and the Federation negotiation team, “It’s truly amazing what you can accomplish with passion, trust, and a shared vision for the continued success of Hemlock Public Schools. This contract is a first for us, in terms of overall length, and its performance-based levels. I would like to thank everyone involved for helping to make this possible, especially the bargaining unit for our teaching staff who were prepared, collaborative, and consummate professionals throughout the process.”
The bargaining unit represents approximately 60 teachers. The new contract will be posted on the district’s website, along with budgetary and other financial transparency items, which can be viewed by visiting the district’s website at hemlockps.com and clicking on the link labeled Budget and Salary/Compensation that appears in the upper right corner.
