Hall of Fame

The Hemlock Public School District is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated Hall of Fame induction ceremony for 2024. This year, we are honored to induct the legendary 1985 Girls Track Team, who captured the state championship title that year. The ceremony will take place on Friday, September 27th, during half-time of the eagerly awaited football game. The Hemlock Public School District Hall of Fame and this special event celebrate outstanding individuals and teams who have contributed significantly to our school and community as distinguished alumni, significant contributors, or outstanding athletic achievements.

After a rigorous selection process, the committee chose the 1985 Girls Track Team for their extraordinary achievements and lasting impact on Hemlock Public School District. This exceptional team includes Joanie Royal, Daleane Walton, Morica Pollard, Sue Arie, Kathe Pollard, Jill Rohn, Julie Watson, Liz Rye, Cathy Tyra, Pam House, Molly Morrison, Kim Gay, Lisa Allen, Linda Smelley, Angie Knapper, Mia Kaski, Camie West, Laurie West, Suzette Gray, Tami Wilkins, Beth Burdo, Geeske Visser, Kristi Flewelling, Sue Breternitz, Becky Breternitz, Darla Yaggie, Tracy Stone, Karen Riefe, and Lori Erskine. The team was coached by the ineffable Lori Griffing, along with the faithful support of their Assistant Coach, Terry Griffing.

Coach Lori Griffing, who led the team to victory, expressed her pride and joy, stating, “This team of talented athletes had the perfect mindset for being champions from day one. They knew that being ‘THE BEST’ would require dedication, support for each other, extra effort, and even some ‘pain’ to achieve their ultimate goal. They never wavered in their pursuit of the prize. This team’s commitment to excellence brought many successes for them and inspiration for future athletes at Hemlock High School. I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to work with this great group of women and the “winners” they truly are.”

The 1985 Girls Track Team's state championship win remains a pinnacle of athletic achievement in Hemlock's history.
