Bus Grant

The Hemlock Public School District is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $1.3 million grant as part of the Michigan Clean School Bus Energy Grant initiative. This funding will support the acquisition of four new clean-energy buses, reinforcing the district’s commitment to providing students with safe, modern, and energy-efficient travel options.

This grant, awarded through the Michigan Department of Education’s Clean School Bus program, marks a significant advancement in the district’s sustainability goals. Hemlock is eager to continue fostering a healthy environment for students and the community by reducing the environmental impact of school transportation.

Board President Matt Wesener expressed enthusiasm for the grant, stating, “This is a wonderful step forward for Hemlock. With this grant, we are making a tangible investment in the health of our students and community while continuing to set the bar for responsible environmental stewardship. We’re proud to lead by example and show that even in a small town, we can make a big impact.”

The addition of these four buses supports Hemlock’s ongoing initiative to build a greener, safer future for its students. By integrating clean energy transportation, the district aims to reduce emissions, lower maintenance costs, and contribute to statewide efforts to create a cleaner environment.

“Receiving this grant allows us to enhance our district’s transportation system significantly while staying aligned with our vision for a sustainable future,” said Superintendent Dr. Don Killingbeck. “We are grateful for the support and resources that will enable us to provide students with safer, more efficient buses, which ultimately benefits everyone in our community.”

Dr. Killingbeck also extended his gratitude to Transportation Director Donoghue and Business Director Denise Dowdell for their efforts and dedication in securing this grant. “This achievement wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and commitment of our team. Donoghue and Dowdell have been instrumental in navigating this process and ensuring that our district’s vision for clean transportation becomes a reality,” he noted.

Hemlock Public School District is proud to take this major step forward and looks forward to implementing clean energy initiatives that positively impact the district and the community.
