Dinner

On Saturday, November 9th at 1 PM, Hemlock Public School District is excited to welcome nearly 300 of our most beloved community members to the 53rd annual Fall Senior Citizen Dinner hosted at Hemlock Middle School. This special event is for Hemlock residents only, who have RSVP in advance, and is honoring the grandparents, veterans, and community elders who make our town genuinely remarkable. Doors open at noon, and many of our seniors love to arrive early to socialize, catching up with friends and neighbors before the festivities begin. Among them, we’ll even have a centenarian guest to add to the celebration.

For more than five decades, this dinner has served as a way to connect and express our appreciation to the senior members of our community. It’s not just a school event but a community-wide tradition facilitated by the school district in partnership with local businesses and organizations.

“In Hemlock, we hold this event close to our hearts,” shared Dr. Don Killingbeck, Superintendent of Hemlock Public Schools. “We’re thrilled to continue this tradition. It’s a time to honor the individuals who have laid the foundations of our town and to celebrate the generations who built and sustain our community.”

In past years, we reached out to special guests like Oprah and Ellen, but despite our best efforts, they always turned us down! This year, we’re showcasing all local talent with a program guaranteed to delight. Dr. Killingbeck will serve as our emcee, guiding an evening full of music from the Hemlock Band, including a tribute to our veterans, and a Thanksgiving song performed by a local pastor and a community member. Guests will enjoy prizes, good laughs, and, of course, a wonderful meal shared with friends.

A huge thank you goes to our generous donors and sponsors who make this event possible, including Wolgast Corporation, our Major Turkey Sponsor, and the Hemlock Business Association and Hemlock Community Pep Club, our Major Prize Sponsors.

These contributions are joined by the support of over 30 local businesses and individuals whose generosity reflects our community’s commitment to our senior citizens.

We also want to extend a special thank you to the Hemlock Food Service and Custodial Department for their dedicated preparation and setup, as well as to our student volunteers who help make this event run smoothly. Their efforts and kindness bring warmth and joy to our senior guests each year.

The Fall Senior Citizen Dinner is a longstanding symbol of Hemlock’s dedication to honoring our roots, celebrating our community, and cherishing those who make it truly special.
