Hemlock, MI – The upcoming decision by our community on March 10th, regarding our Sinking Fund Proposal, is important to the future of Hemlock Public School District and the students we serve.
One of the questions, we have heard from our community is how much would this Sinking Fund cost, if approved by voters? To find out follow this link, find out your Taxable Value (and use this formula, Taxable Value x .001= annual cost.
Many people also ask, how do we compare to our neighbors? With academics, athletics, and service we are highly regionally and demographically competitive, but when it comes to our mill rates see the following data from fall 2019.
Merrill 7.83 mills
Swan Valley 7 mills + 1.5 sinking fund mills
St. Charles 4.55 mills
Hemlock 3.90
If approved, a Sinking Fund would provide us with a stable and dedicated source of funding replacing our 1959 windows, roofs, and the other repairs needed in our aging facilities.
As with many of the school districts in our area that already have Sinking Funds, our students would benefit because we could respond to our looming “life cycle” facility repairs and replacements.
A Sinking Fund would strengthen what we’re already doing to prepare our students for life and work in the 21st Century.
