Hemlock Public School District is proud to announce the launch of its Cadet Teaching Program, an innovative opportunity for high school students to explore careers in education and child development. This immersive program places aspiring educators directly in elementary classrooms, providing hands-on experience alongside seasoned teachers and engaging with young learners.
The Cadet Teaching Program allows high school students to gain valuable insight into the world of education while developing essential skills such as communication, organization, and classroom management. Cadets participate in tasks like assisting with lesson planning, delivering activities, and offering individualized student support, giving them a realistic perspective of what it means to be an educator.
“This program has created a unique learning experience for both the cadet teachers and the elementary students,” said Renea Klopf, a kindergarten teacher. “It has been rewarding to see the positive influence our cadets have on the younger generation of learners. The students eagerly welcome the cadets each day, looking forward to their guidance and the learning opportunities they bring.”
In addition to fostering teaching skills, the program helps students build a professional network within the education field. Cadets gain valuable connections and insights that will support their future careers, whether they choose to become educators or pursue other roles in the field.
Kenadi, a senior cadet teacher working in a 2nd-grade classroom, shared her enthusiasm: “One of my favorite things about this program is seeing the kids every day and helping them with whatever they may need. It’s so fun listening to what they have to say and getting to know them!”
The Cadet Teaching Program is designed to help students discover if teaching is the right career path while nurturing leadership skills and a deeper understanding of the educational process. This opportunity equips students with foundational knowledge and experience that will serve them well in college and beyond.
