The Lockwood STEM Center at Hemlock Public School District welcomed the board of directors of the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC) on Tuesday, March 18th, showcasing its state-of-the-art facilities and its commitment to fostering high-tech talent in the Great Lakes Bay Region. A special thank you to Patrick Curry, from Fullerton Tool, for making this event possible.
The MMTC board experienced the center’s innovative learning environment firsthand, listening to compelling student presentations and touring the newly completed STEM labs. The visit highlighted the growing demand for skilled professionals in advanced manufacturing and the pivotal role the Lockwood STEM Center plays in meeting that need.
Congresswoman McDonald Rivet also joined the event, engaging with students about their robotics experiences and future aspirations. She and the MMTC board toured the center’s specialized labs—including Computing & Design, Electronics, 3D Printing, and Lego Labs—as well as the Keel Innovation Center. The visit concluded with a dynamic robot demonstration on the Hemlock Semiconductor Robotics Field.
"We are incredibly proud to showcase the Lockwood STEM Center and the remarkable work our students are doing," said Superintendent Dr. Don Killingbeck. "This visit underscores the vital connection between STEM education and the future of manufacturing in our region. We are committed to providing our students with the skills and experiences they need to thrive in the high-tech workforce, and the support of organizations like the MMTC is invaluable in achieving that goal."
The Lockwood STEM Center is a hub of innovation, offering students in the Great Lakes Bay Region unparalleled opportunities to explore and develop their passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
