This week's #StaffSpotlight is on the beloved Becky Killingbeck, our School Nurse here are Hemlock Public School District for the past 2 1/2 years. We want you to get to know Nurse Becky a little better, so here are some fun facts you may not know about her: • She loves fixing small appliances, from dishwashers to dryers. She just loves taking things apart, figuring out what needs to be fixed, and putting them back together. • If a movie was made of her life, she'd want Jennifer Garner, her favorite actress, to play her. • As a child she wanted to be a teacher or a nurse. Being the school nurse allows her the opportunity to do both. She gets to teach kids about keeping their bodies healthy - her most favorite thing about her job! • What superlative would have been given to her in school? "Band wannabe". When she went to high school, band wasn't cool. All her friends were in band, but she wasn't even cool enough to be in band. True story. • We asked her what accomplishment fills her with pride so far this year, and she said, "My family. Being a wife of 27 years, being a mom of 23 years. Watching my 4 children grow and become kindhearted humans beings. Seeing all the things they've pursued and been involved in. Watching my kids and my husband bring their dreams to life." • If she were to win the lottery and give up her position at HPSD, she'd travel first, as she loves exploring and seeing new places. Then she would come back home and open up a bakery with all the yummy things she enjoyed while traveling. We’re grateful you’re part of the Huskie Pack, Nurse Becky. Thank you for all you do to keep our incredible students healthy. #PackLeaders #Huskietastic #BetterTogether #Since1863

It's #TeacherFeatureTuesday and today we're featuring the brilliant Brady Hagenow, who is in his first year of teaching here at K.C. Ling Elementary, and is enjoying educating our 3rd graders. We wanted you to get to know Mr. Hagenow a little better, so here are some fun facts about him: • A song he could listen to on repeat is Dallas by Alan Jackson. • We asked him what his students might be surprised to find out about him, and he shared, "...that I am in a Rock Band, called the Whiskey Six. Check Facebook and Instagram for upcoming shows". • His worst fashion decision? He confessed that his hair right now is the longest it has ever been. "It looks pretty bad, but haircuts are too expensive". • A quote he lives his life by is from Jeremiah 29:11, “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future'”. • A recipe he can cook to perfection? Why, Red Baron Frozen Pizza. He kindly shared the coveted recipe: Step 1: Set oven to 400 degrees, Step 2: Place pizza on oven rack, Step 3: Cook for 17 minutes, Step 4: Eat. We’re delighted to have you in our Huskie Pack, Mr. Hagenow! #Huskietastic #Since1863 #HPSDPackLeader #HemlockStrong #HemlockHuskies

Meet Lori Erskine Marsh, a distinguished graduate from Hemlock High School's class of 1986, and the focus of our next HPSD Alumni Spotlight. During her time at Hemlock, Lori was a true all-rounder, participating in basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, and band. She fondly remembers the strong sense of community that rallied together to support one another. After graduation, Lori pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science from Alma College with a major in Biology and minors in Psychology and Health Studies Fellowship. She furthered her studies with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Hemlock High School's emphasis on the sciences and the opportunity to engage in various activities prepared Lori for her post-graduate life. She credits Mr. West and Mr. Taylor as her favorite teachers, particularly in the sciences. Among her most cherished high school memories are the numerous sports achievements, including district wins in basketball, a victorious volleyball season, and winning the state track championship in 1985. Lori's involvement in band also brought memorable experiences, including competing in Germany, Washington DC, and Japan, and meeting her future husband. Since graduating, Lori has dedicated the last 30 years to helping individuals of all ages improve their daily lives as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist at Children’s Therapy Corner in Midland, Michigan. She is passionate about supporting children and their families in reaching their full potential and raising awareness about different abilities. Lori's advice to current Huskies is to take full advantage of the opportunities to be involved in various areas offered by their school. Lori Erskine Marsh's journey from Hemlock High School to a fulfilling career in pediatric occupational therapy exemplifies the impact of a well-rounded education and the dedication to making a difference in the lives of others. #AlumniSpotlight #HemlockHuskies #BetterTogether #Since1863
