The holidays are a time of giving and nowhere was it more apparent than in the Hemlock Public School District. Throughout the month of December, students participated in a Holiday Food Drive, Pajama Drive, and Toys for Tots to help those less fortunate during the holiday season.
Hemlock and K. C. Ling Elementary students collected over 600 pounds in donations for our Holiday Food Drive. Students were asked to bring in non-perishable food items that were donated to local churches and food pantries to be distributed in time for the holidays. Students who gave were entered into a drawing to win Spirit Hockey tickets for their whole family.
Principal Gensch said, “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our students throughout the Holiday Food Drive. The amount of excitement that was generated by helping others in need was contagious. This was just another reminder of what caring and compassionate students and families we have here at Hemlock.”
Hemlock High School's Book Club collected 163 snuggly pairs of pajamas in their annual pajama drive. The pajamas will be given to The City Rescue Mission of Saginaw.
High School Teacher Jennifer Whitford shared, “The pajama drive is always a big success because of the caring families we have here in Hemlock.”
Hemlock High School Student's Leading Students spearheaded the Toys for Tots event with help from the National Honor Society.
Mrs. Mulvaney, SLS advisor, said, "I am so thankful for the generosity of our students, staff, and the community in filling over two boxes of toys for young children in need."
