Work-Based Learning in Saginaw County - Student Connection to Employers
Moltus Building Group is a full-service design-build general contractor located in Hemlock, Michigan. They provide construction services to many local, national, and international customers. They perform work in the Michigan market as well as most of the lower 48 States and 5 Provinces in Canada.
Moltus reached out to Hemlock High School's instructor and work-based learning coordinator, Mrs. Dana Lockwood, to see if she had any students who might be interested in a position with their company as they needed to expand their in-house drafting services. Samson Johnston was highly recommended by Mrs. Lockwood as a possible fit for the 2022 school year. Samson was provided with an interview last year, started working part-time and over the summer, and then entered into a work-based learning experience for his senior year this past fall.
According to his boss, Samson has been a welcome addition to the Moltus family and has been able to quickly adapt to a myriad of different projects and drafting needs. His eagerness to learn and problem-solve is refreshing to see and will serve him well in whatever career field he chooses. Currently, he has an offer from the University of Michigan via their Hail scholarship but wants to attend Michigan Tech as he has also been accepted there. These two opportunities further highlight the character that Samson exhibits. The staff at Moltus would love to see him come back home to Hemlock after he completes college.
