Representative Kelly Visits

K.C. Ling Elementary School welcomed House Representative Tim Kelly as he helped kick off March as Reading Month. His visit was not only a celebration of literacy but also a chance for students to engage with their elected officials in a meaningful way. Rep. Kelly brought along gifts for the school, including coloring books and a variety of other books intended to inspire a love for reading among students.

Board President Matt Wesener shared his enthusiasm about the event, stating, "Having elected officials like Rep. Kelly visit our schools highlights the importance of literacy in our community. It's a wonderful opportunity for students to see how reading can connect them to the world around them."

During his visit, Rep. Kelly read to six different classrooms, bringing stories to life for the eager young listeners. He interacted with the students, encouraging them to read more. After the reading sessions, Rep. Kelly took the time to tour the district, including a visit to the Lockwood STEM Center. This center focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, showing students how these subjects can be exciting and relevant in their lives.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Killingbeck noted, "Literacy is truly the gateway skill that opens up a world of possibilities for our students. When students are encouraged to read, they are not just learning to read; they are learning to think critically and engage with the world."

As March continues, students at K.C. Ling Elementary can look forward to even more guest readers. House Representative Amos O'Neal will also visit to read to students, further enriching their educational experience. With each visitor, students have the chance to connect with their community and understand the role of their elected officials.

The visit from Rep. Kelly was a reminder of the vital connection between literacy and community engagement. We are grateful for the support of our elected officials in promoting reading and education within our schools.
