Safety

This week at Hemlock Middle School, students had the opportunity to hear directly from Superintendent Killingbeck and Officer Randy on an essential topic: school safety. Their presentation outlined critical safety measures, reinforcing the shared responsibility of creating a secure school environment. The interactive session highlighted the importance of cooperation among students, staff, and community members in maintaining a safe and supportive school.

The comprehensive presentation covered several key points, starting with the shared responsibility of school safety. Officer Randy emphasized that each individual plays a role in maintaining a secure school environment, from students and staff to local safety partners.

Superintendent Killingbeck and Officer Randy provided an overview of the district’s Safety Plan and Safety Drills that students may already be familiar with, including Secure Mode, Lockdown, and Evacuation procedures. They explained that certain aspects of the plan are confidential to ensure preparedness and protection in case of emergencies.

Superintendent Killingbeck encouraged students to “take responsibility and be proactive about their safety, as well as the safety of those around them,” adding that “the strength of our community lies in our willingness to protect and look out for one another.”

SAFETYThe presentation wrapped up with an important reminder: if you see something, say something. Students were encouraged to use resources like the OK2SAY program and the Hemlock Crisis Line if they experience or witness a safety concern.

“School safety is a shared responsibility,” said Superintendent Killingbeck. “When we work together, we create a climate of trust, security, and support for all. Our students play a vital role in this, and we want them to know they have a voice and support within this community.”

The Hemlock Public School District is grateful for the active participation of students and looks forward to continuing its strong partnership with local law enforcement to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
